Truffle the chocolate lab died today. Woke up late, threw up last night’s dinner, and basically lay down to let it all go. Six hours later, the last soft caught breath was gone.
We stroked her soft ears and head. We told her what a good dog she was. We said it was ok to go. And really, it was. At 14 she was truly done and ready for the long sleep.
Still, it hurts. Warm head nestled in your lap, rubbing those ears and neck like you’re communing with the best parts of human/dog time. My eyes sting - tired behind them from the emotional roller coaster of today.
These animals come into our lives, bind us with their precious loyalty and their endless capacity for love, rip at our souls when they go.
Love to you special dogness. Run the beaches of your dreams, chasing endless ball.
